Education Links
Today, the intersection between technology, democracy, and the globalizing world
has become an area of critical importance. Many academic institutions are beginning to realize the
permeating effect of technology and its role in society. With this understanding these institutions
have set out to address this growing phenomena by establishing progressive
programs that address the issues, of globalization, democracy, and the role of
technology affecting social change world wide.
Here is a list of educational instituions whether academic or professional that are
dedicated to the relevant work of community and international development, democratic governance,
technology and the public sphere. These are primarily graduate programs, but some of the links
provide undergrad programs as
well.
Sites that maintain large lists of education links:
- This is a great site maintained by the
University of
Indiana's Department of Social Informatics
that list undergraduate and graduate programs focusing on Social
Informatics within the United States and elsewhere.
- This site maintained by NC State
is a large listing of Science, Technology and Society programs being taught at
universities world-wide.

Human-Computer Interaction This interdisciplinary, collaborative
program is a cooperative effort of the College of Computing; the
School of Psychology; and the School of Literature, Communication,
and Culture (LCC). Coordinated and administered through the GVU
Center, the program will provide students with the practical,
interdisciplinary skills and theoretical understanding they will
need to become leaders in the design, implementation and
evaluation of the computer interfaces of the future.
- Carnegie Mellon, Human Computer Interaction Institute
Primary mission is to create effective, usable, enjoyable experiences with technology
through interdisciplinary research in engineering, design, computer
science, and the behavioral and social sciences, and to understand
the impact of technology on individuals, groups, and organizations.

Science, Technology and Society
- Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute,Science and Technology Studies
The field of science and technology studies asks fundamental
questions about the role of science and technology in social and
environmental change. It integrates insights from the humanities
and social sciences into a coherent body of knowledge that provides
a basis for action. As they grapple with this central issue in the
contemporary world, students in this field can expect broad,
rigorous training, with commensurate intellectual rewards.
- Claremont Colleges, The Science, Technology,
and Society Program of the Claremont Colleges is an intercollegiate, interdisciplinary
program through which students may pursue an integrated study of the
history, philosophy, and social dimensions of science and technology.
It is predicated on the idea that a full understanding of the
character and cultural significance of science and technology
requires an interdisciplinary approach involving training in
science along with scholarship in the humanities and social sciences.
