May First/People Link

Organization's slogan:
Growing Networks to Build a Just World

May First/People Link is an organization that redefines the concept of "Internet Service Provider" in a collective, politically progressive and collaborative way. May First/People Link's members are organizers and activists. Together, like a coop, we pay dues, buy equipment and then we all use that equipment as we need to for websites, email, email lists, and just about everything else we do on the Internet.

The organization is led by progressive technologists; both progressive about technology and progressive for movements. From their support website: "Transparency, sharing and mutual support are some of the most radical concepts of the Internet. They are also the foundations of building political movements. We are purposefully opening our wiki and issue tracker up to the world in order to strengthen the organization and to contribute our thinking beyond our organization. Many people who will never directly interact with May First/People Link can benefit from the issues encountered by our members and the solutions we come up with to solve them. Why should we keep this information to ourselves?"

Membership is beyond 500 and most members are organizations. MF/PL's base is beyond 5,000. When members join through the website, they sign a Statement of Unity and are given access to services immediately. Dues are competitive against corporate hosting rates and are paid yearly.
